The highly successful launch of Carpe World's new product FIRESTARTER has already created a great deal of interest...

The highly successful launch of Carpe World’s new product FIRESTARTER has already created a great deal of interest in those well-known companies attending the recent One Day Discovery. Business NLP still has uncertain connotations based on some of the NLP practitioners back in the 1980s visiting US corporates with joss sticks and sandals. And over two decades later throughout the day there was no reference to hypnosis, trances and therapy… much to the relief of many senior business executives who came along with fingers crossed.

In fact nothing could have been further from this image on May 15th at Bosworth Hall. A polished introduction followed by sketches from a group of seasoned actors put much of the audience instantly at ease. Okay, the popcorn did make me think… what am I letting myself in for, but it was soon explained to my satisfaction as an introduction to a ‘one-day movie’ and I sat back and enjoyed the ride.

There was the odd technical glitch, but nothing that ruined what was an impressive and very business-based introduction to neuro-linguistic programming. There were some nice touches like the Master Practitioner who was also a top-flight magician which added to the ride and analogies. There were even some fireside chats with success stories including a British Airways pilot, Ian Willoughby in full uniform. He came over very well indeed and his story, compelling.

The amount of work that this event must have taken was self-evident by the room layout, refreshments, strong visuals and sometimes quite compelling material including a whole host of specially created video clips. What I wanted more of was to get down to the nitty gritty, though the free CD and DVD at the end helped enormously as I was able to have FireStarter part 2 at home over the weekend.

I can see the possibility of much professional jealousy around FireStarter because it is such a diversion from what is currently out there, but if other fires start being lit by other fire-starting NLP trained businesses, we will know that this event is indeed the tipping point for quality NLP in a totally business-focused style for the first time.

The word is out. There’s a new kid on the block. It’s a business-focused NLP programme with full accreditation.

But there’s much more to this story.

Many years ago back in the 70s, universities like Southampton decided to teach medicine to their students in a new way. They immersed their doctors-to-be in the deep end by getting them to practise on real patients much sooner. At this time it was more usual for students to see real patients after two years in the classroom. Southampton wanted their undergraduates seeing real patients after 2 weeks.

FireStarter is geared to getting people in business working on their businesses, not after completing the Practitioner workshop, but within the first couple of hours of the standalone Discovery Day.

FireStarter really does mean business and is relentless in getting people to the finishing line in record time.

“For too long, NLP practitioners have been accused of being NLP non-practitioners”, said Glen McCoy one of the FireStarter Creative Coaching Team. “We intend to put this Business NLP programme firmly on the Business Success Map. People are already deciding to attend because of the fresh, new and thoroughly exciting approach”.

Imagine coming to the Discovery Day and walking out with several eureka breakthrough thoughts, a fresh new perspective on growth and profit plus a tangible FireStarter First Response Toolkit.

That’s FireStarter…

As the basis of any type of coaching or self-improvement, mindset is king...

As the basis of any type of coaching or self-improvement, mindset is king. Quite regardless of what subject, skill or discipline you are helping someone with, if their mindset is out of kilter then you can pretty much expect the results to be disjointed and probably quite disappointing. Yet when coaches and trainers work in businesses and large corporates, mindset is often given little or no time as the topic in hand is focused on as the most important part of the unfolding jigsaw. If anything mindset is sometimes added in as a bonus at the end which completely misses the point of its strategic importance.

Probably one of the reasons why this is the case revolves around the fact that many coaches are not fully aware of how to coach and share this important knowledge. At Carpe World we’ve discovered that placing mindset at the top of the ladder of importance creates immensely useful opportunities to sharpen people’s thinking and allow them to have daily practical methodologies to deal with negative thinking, interference and what we often refer to as ‘displacement activity’. This list refers to those thoughts often driven by that little voice in our heads which needs to be tamed more often than not with a positive mindset that is helpful rather than hindering.

A great mindset tool for coaching is called Business Gold Cards. This simple process allows individuals and teams to write down their goals on a card where each card represents a different goal. Where a team is concerned if they are sharing similar goals and are reading similar cards, provided this is done on a daily basis, it creates a fresh new mindset which is invigorating, inspiring and often quite exciting.

A good question to ask yourself right now is how much exercise do you do? And how much mental exercise do you do? Both these things are very important for every human being and yet very few people in the world are doing something on both counts in a serious way. Yet if you were to speak to anyone who is very successful in what they do and has achieved it by their own means, the chances are they look after themselves in a physical way and have a great mindset as well.

If you wish to know more about how we can help you create an amazing mindset, particularly around new skills that you may wish to learn or adopt in your organisation, send an e-mail to contactus@carpeworld.com and we will be delighted to get you on the right track.

So there you are sitting on the sofa on a Sunday evening watching your favourite TV programme when you realise the dishwasher machine isn’t working and it’s your turn to do the washing up...

So there you are sitting on the sofa on a Sunday evening watching your favourite TV programme when you realise the dishwasher machine isn’t working and it’s your turn to do the washing up. How do you feel? Do you suddenly leap out of your chair in a motivated fashion or are you more likely to be thinking, “I wonder if I can do the deed tomorrow after breakfast”. For many it is the latter type of conversation that permeates their mind and curious how those same people have no tool or technique that they can use in order to make a big difference on their thinking process.

Enter the 4-minute rule.

The way the 4-minute rule works is that you promise yourself to do the task you least wish to do with as much energy and forced vigour as possible with the understanding that in minute 5 if you still hate what you’re doing you can stop and go back to whatever you prefer to be doing. You should try this, it really works!

What actually happens is that if you do anything with energy and enthusiasm for at least 4 minutes, enough endorphins will be released into your system that makes you feel good and that good feeling gets associated with what you are then doing at the time. Whenever I’ve used this technique, I found that when my alarm signal goes off at 4 minutes I am smiling to myself thinking “Here we go again. I was sure I’d be able to resume my couch potato pose again yet there’s no way I want to stop what I’ve really got stuck into!”

So once again here’s the idea: it’s called the 4-minute rule and you do something that you least want to do for 4 minutes with energy and enthusiasm knowing that after the 4 minutes if you still hate it you can go back to what you were doing before. I think you will find that on most occasions you will be pleasantly surprised at how self-motivated you have become around that dreaded task.

I wonder who came up with the term ‘credit crunch’? It’s almost like it’s been created by an advertising agency well in advance of any so-called recession and then released into the ether giving flight and fright to everyone who uses it. Many would say that one of the casualties in business would be coaching and training. Well this might be the case with certain companies and it probably would very much relate to how useful the coaching or training actually is. At Carpe World when we coach we think of the ROI or return on investment. For coaching to be useful there has to be a ROI as par for the course. As a coach if you’re not ensuring that the ROI is exciting then how can you expect a business to continue to employ you?

For small businesses and the self-employed where there is the facility to alter the sales and marketing plan quite quickly, the so-called credit crunch is a non-starter. Small businesses and entrepreneurs have a huge opportunity via the services of a great business coach to re-evaluate, redesign, redefine and reap new levels of success by their new forms of proactivity .

It’s true to say that the classic maxim when the going gets tough the tough get going has a lot of merit in financially challenging times. There are many entrepreneurs who are currently having some of the best business months they’ve had in decades. It’s all about turning circumstances to your advantage rather like a ship on the ocean in a storm. Although the people on deck may get a little wet, the storm could take them to their destination much quicker than they ever expected. The other thing about a ship is that it can exist very safely when anchored in a safe harbour, yet that’s not what a ship was designed for.

Going back to the early part of the 20th Century it’s interesting that coaching originated from the word ‘co-achievement’...

Going back to the early part of the 20th Century it’s interesting that coaching originated from the word ‘co-achievement’ extensively applied in the world of sports in the USA. Co-achievers were drafted in to help teams of players, particularly in American football and basketball who were players once themselves.

These co-achievers would work on a 50:50 basis with the players to ensure they achieved great results and like any word it was eventually shortened from co-achiever to co-ach.

Today coaching seems to have taken a completely different path, and many coaches see coaching as a completely non-directive process. Whereas that might be a new way of assisting people, it bears no resemblance to the fundamental process referred to above. Coaching in businesses today often has a strong requirement for immediate results. Business owners and entrepreneurs appear to be seeking more than some support and motivation; they’re looking for hard practical ideas alongside the brainstorming mindset and innovation that a business coach may bring.

At Carpe World our business coaches have a track record based on practical application. When shadow coaching and during one-to-one sessions their approach is a 50:50 relationship thereby making it a joint responsibility for the ultimate result. We found that this collaborative approach has been extremely successful and invariably the bottom line results speak for themselves.

If you would like to know more about how we can collaborate in your business and help you achieve tangible results reflected initially in the top line or sales as well as ultimately in your net profit figures, then send an e-mail to contactus@carpeworld.com.
